Renaissance in 5 Steps- Art History Course

Have you ever wished to know more about Renaissance art in Florence?
This 5 steps art history course is your chance!
We will discover how Florence turned out to be the cradle of this new era.
Walking in the streets, admiring its squares and buildings, we will deep into the economic and social aspects that brought this little town to be a leading center for art in fifteenth century.
We will get familiar with the life and works by Brunelleschi, Michelangelo and Leonardo among others, the greatest Florentines who praised the Renaissance.

During our on line appointments you will learn how to distinguish a Medieval piece of art from a Renaissance one, you will be able to recognize the most famous masterpieces of this golden era and to understand their meanings.

The focus will be on paintings, sculptures and architecture.
Lessons will be held on Zoom, at 4 pm Italian time. Lessons 1 and 3 will be PowerPoint presentations, while lessons 2, 4 and 5 will be live from the sites in Florence.

1. Nov. 21st: Middle Ages vs. Renaissance
Why are the Middle Ages considered a dark time? How was art back then? Why there was such a big change? An on line class to answer at these and many more questions!

2. Nov. 28th: Birth of the Renaissance
A live walk in Florence to see where Renaissance began and how: from the Hospital of the Innocents to the Cathedral’s dome.

3. Dec. 5th: Paintings
Botticelli, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael: an on-line class to see and talk about the iconic artists, whose paintings embody the Renaissance.

4. Dec. 12th: Sculptures
Michelangelo, Donatello, Cellini: masters of marble and bronze statues that we will see in a live walk in Florence.

5. Dec. 19th: Architecture
Churches, private palaces and civil buildings are astonishing symbols of Renaissance culture. We will admire them during our live walk.

Federica Bustreo will be your teacher: with a master’s degree in Medieval Art History at the University of Florence, she has a deep knowledge of the subject. She is also a licensed tour guide of the city of Florence.

The course costs 70€ per screen. You can also take part to a single lesson. Each lesson costs 15€ per screen.
